Who are the geeks who left September 5 off the Best Picture nominees list?
The anonymous Academy goofs got it wrong again.
Every year, cineastes await the reveal of the Academy Award nominations, and then quickly talk about which films were snubbed. The Academy, who hides behind the veil of anonymity, probably so they’re not all exposed as being buffoons, rarely get it right. It’s embarassing to be honest. This year is no different. The actual best picture was wasn’t given a nomination.
As someone who got my B.A. in Journalism, and have studied the profession beyond the classroom, journalism movies are my thing. I really enjoy them, but I’m also the most critical of them. It better be good and acurate, or I will rip it to shreads.
With that said, September 5 is the best journalism movie I’ve ever seen. Based on a true story, September 5 takes us inside the ABC Sports control room while they attempt to cover the terrorist kidnapping of the Israeli Olympic team at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
It’s one of those rare pure journalism movies. Not too many of those out there. And its primarily focuses in on journalism ethics. Every single decision made in that control center that day was well thought out and debated. And they always didn’t make the right choices, which is shown in the movie.
September 5 is not only the movie of the year, but it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in my lifetime.
But the Academy will do what they do every year, and its a damn shame!!!
I agree completely.
