What would the perfect 2025 Nick at Nite lineup look like?
It was one of the most influential TV blocks of my childhood, and I have the plan to bring it back and save this culturally illiterate generation.
Growing up as a 90’s kid, we didn’t have access to YouTube, Netflix, Prime, Hulu, HBO Max, or anything else to search out specific niche programing. We didn’t have an algorithm that would keep track of the programming we would watch and send us more of the same.
As 90’s kids, we watched what was on TV. There was nothing else. Some of us can even remember a time before cable.
But today we’re talking about Nickelodeon. More specifically, we’re talking about Nick at Nite. It was the night block on Nick that aired classic tv shows from 9pm-6am Sunday-Friday. Saturdays were for SNICK. A two-hour block of original Nick television shows targeted for preteens to teens. But that’s for a different day.
Before we dig too far into this, I want to mention another TV block we all enjoyed as kids. TGIF aired on ABC every Friday night, and brought us some of the most beloved sitcoms in history, many of which will be on my 2025 Nick at Nite lineup.
Kids today won’t enjoy any of this. The family sitcom for all all intents and purposes is dead. And so is television. Kids today aren’t watching TV like we used to. They’re watching creators on YouTube and TikTok.
And with that, this generation has become culturally illiterate. They don’t really have a clue about past generations like we did. And part of the reason is because they weren’t watching television from past generations.
I’ve come up with the solution.
We’ll bring back Nick at Nite. I’ll even volunteer to be the programming director free of charge.
While the name “Nick at Nite” still technically exists on the network, we are 20+ years removed from what that TV block was originally intended to be.
My version of Nick at Nite will air 9pm-6am Sunday-Friday, with classic movies airing during that slot on Saturdays. After all, I am the Wise Movie Fan.
